The ‘Fun Day’ took place as planned on the 29th. This was to be part of a consulation procedure in the process to move the club on to another level. Can Do Communities are assisting us to complete a feasability study to take step towards making Mersey Bank our perminant home. We had bouncy castles, face painting, Space Hopper and Sack races. The favourite event was ‘Beat the Keeper’, we had Brandon Dyer our under 9 recently signed by Manchester United keeper who kept all comers at bay. We also had a match for our adult disability team, playing a very enjoyable friendly game. Although the feedback on the day has yet to be collated we felt it went well and think we can build on this next season. Massive thanks and praise must go to everyone who helped and supported on the day. In no particular order thanks to Georgina, Chelsea, Umar, Sulimen, Danny, David, Leo, Tim, Kate, John, Ronnie, Alan, Andrew, Cath, Annie, Mary, Gen, Jacquie and all the players and coaches who came and joined in to make the day go well. Apologies if i have missed anyone.
Pre Soccer School warm up. Umar doing an excellent impression of Mo Farrah after the laps around Mersey Bank, following in his wake are Suliman, Danny and Jacquelyn. The soccer school session this week was practicing “turns”. Young Thomas Windler was urging to impress the coaches with his skills and all the group were superbly behaved (including Xenon and Romario, pats on the back boys).
The club are expected to put on a ‘Fletcher Moss Fun Day’, we are attempting to stage this on Saturday 29th August (Bank Holiday Saturday). We want to put something back in to the community by putting on this “Fun Day”. We are planning on things such as ‘Beat the Man United Goal Keeper’, ‘Face painting’, ‘Family Sports Events’, ‘Play Station Football Competition’ and more. We need ALL our coaches and club officials to help and as many parents that can spare the time. The event is expected to run directly after the soccer school has finished at 12.00 noon. Anyone wishing to get involved please drop me a line or catch me at soccer school any Saturday.
CLUB PRESENTATION 2014/15 SEASON
Went really well, the club put on a great show of appreciation to all our members. Every player present from our baby’s, the under 7’s up to the ‘Better Things’ adult disability team received a club trophy. Each team was asked to vote for special awards for their players. There was a ‘Parents Player’ award, a ‘Coaches Player’ award, and the most important award ‘Players Player’. Although throughout the award ceremony many players received two of these trophies but only one player “Ged Gatenby” walked away with all 3 in a landslide set of votes from parents, coaches and peirs. Well Deserved Ged!
The clubs enters its 30th year of being and plans are in place to arrange next seasons special anniversary presentation. Hopefully we can get some of our ex players to come along and share their time with us.
Building on traditions.
Each year we welcome a different visiting team over from Canada to play against us. This year they played against Gavin Kings under 13’s. Mersey Bank Thursday night and it was great for football. It was a hard fought, fair competitive match as you would imagine from a Fletcher Moss side and a team wanting to prove not only the English can play ‘soccer’. Thanks Fergus for bringing the guys over again, hope to see you again in 2016.
HOW PROUD ARE WE?
It was signing on day at Manchester United today and once again we can boast a host of talent that was spotted playing for us and have been selected to sign for next years under 9’s Academy. Both our under 8’s coaches (Rob & Mohammed) will need to look for some worthy replacements for next seasons campaign after loosing 5 players from their squads to the reds and more to other pro clubs (Stoke City, Everton and Stockport so far). The United players (pictured) are Left to right; Maison, Prince, Brandon, Corey and Felix. Mohammed who has mixed emotions about the signings because he has lost 2 goal keepers at the same time, so he is now on the lookout for a replacement for next season, any takers?
Manchester United’s under 18’s played in an indoor tournament in Germany and came away as winners (beating the Germans in the final in a penalty shoot out too). 4 of the players are ex Fletcher Moss soccer school players. Devante Redmond, Rohsaun Williams, Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick Jackson (back row of picture).
The open age squad played their second round of games on Friday evening at Salford. Fielding 2 teams in the competition their oppositions was Bury FC, Bolton Wanderers, and You Can. The best win was the First teams 11 nil win against Bury FC. Captain Tim Dalton was the evenings top scorer with 14 on target. David and Alicia must get a mention for attaining 2 and 1 clean sheets respectively speaking. Well Done Guys, we are proud of you all.
The soccer school is in dire need of new coaches who are enthusiastic about running a football team. We have several group in need of good solid leadership and an ambition to take on and develop. If there are any people who think they have the qualities to run a team, please give a call to David Horrocks (academy development officer and skills coach) 07712 450 181
The club is moving on with their plans to secure a long term lease and serious funding to develop the site for us and the community. We need people with specialist skills in conveyancing, legal skills, surveying, building, building design, architects, public relations etc to help move forward. Would any of our members be willing to give up some time to benefit the club and build a more secure organisation.
