The most eagerly awaited game of our season took place on the hottest day of the year so far, we arrived early with the dads limbering up and the lads laughing at their attempts to look good in shorts. The lads had their squad sorted and were taking shots on each other, while the dads were arguing who goes in goal!!!. 11 keepers i think not.
The ref was getting impatient and she blew her whistle for kick off, the dads strolled on while the lads got straight in there trying to outpace the dads and Ryan Marples did so as he had done all season. The dads had a few opportunities but were caught offside on more than one occasion much to their dissapointment and much barracking of the ref, who had to get tough on Dec and warned him if he argued again he would get a card. The dads broke through and Chris Hibbert opened the scoring (we know where Lukey gets it from now). With 2 minutes to go the dads fouled Luke (smallest player on pitch) to concede a penalty. He placed the ball on the spot for his own spot kick, with his own dad telling the keeper John the cat Logan which way he places his kicks only for it to be saved but volleyed back in by Pamela the ref Fusi.
Half time saw the dads trying to breathe.
The lads reorganising for second half and started brighter with only 3 minutes gone Bradleigh shot on the cat who got a hand to it and palmed it into his own net!! The dads tried hard but couldnt score for toffee they ballooned it over (Chris) got tackled by Josh (Dec) got caught offside again (Luke+Kieran) some demonstrating against the ref (Joel). There was some great work down the wings from Kingsley and Pete G that saw Jamie get on the end and Sam picked ball out of net 3-2 to the lads.
In the 3rd period the dads were determined not to be beat, Mike and Kieron almost fell over each other score and they both claimed it. There was great work down the wing from Dom and Callum that saw them put Luke through and what a goal scored on his manager who wasnt best pleased as ref had blown for a pen but she changed her mind to play advantage (womans perogative). The dads were getting worried now all calling offside (Mark and Anthony Flynn) even when lads were taking goal kick! Dylan was fouled in the area and he took a beautiful pen the keeper got finger tips to it (so he says afterwards). The supporters were going wild but the dads werent to be humiliated and cousin Luke got the last goal of game for dads final score 5-4 to lads. A big thanks to all that played and all supporters.
